Prayer to St. Joseph That Never Fails

Do you have a special intention that you need to pray for? Check out this prayer to St. Joseph that never fails:

The Prayer to St. Joseph That Never Fails

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.

Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for me! Amen.

It is not uncommon for prayer cards with this prayer to include the following text:

“This prayer was found in the 50th year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505, it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never die a sudden death or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, or shall be burned in any fire or be overpowered in battle.

Say for nine mornings for anything you may desire. It has never been known to fail, so be sure you really want what you ask.”

Why Pray to St. Joseph

According to Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, St. Joseph was a man of tremendous sanctity and a model of love and devotion to both Our Lady and Our Lord.

Throughout much of Church history, due to the roles entrusted to him during his earthly life, St. Joseph has been recognized as a chief intercessor for the Universal Church, individual families, workers, and the dying.

Many saints have attested to the power and efficacy of St. Joseph’s intercession, one of the most notable being St. Teresa of Avila’s testimony. In her autobiography, she writes:

“It is now very many years since I began asking him for something on his feast, and I always received it. If the petition was in any way amiss, he rectified it for my greater good.”

Padre Pio (St. Pio of Pietrelcina) also famously bore witness to St. Teresa of Avila’s experience:

“Go to Joseph with extreme confidence, because I, like St. Teresa of Avila, do not remember having asked anything from St. Joseph without having obtained it readily.”
