About
Hi, my name is Taylor Engel.
I’m on mission to help Catholics who are tired of being lukewarm, inconsistent, or lost in their faith become everyday, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
Like many Catholics, I was baptized as an infant, received First Holy Communion in the second grade, and became a fully initiated Catholic at my reception of Confirmation at the age of 16.
But there was a problem then. I didn’t care about my Catholic faith. At all.
As far as I was concerned I had the world and all its pleasures on my mind. The last thing I wanted to do was waste my time praying and not having any fun due to all the Church’s prohibitions.
But then, without warning, everything changed.
Just before my senior year in high school, I somehow found myself at a Catholic youth conference. And it was there that I came face to face with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
My life was literally changed in a moment.
I didn’t understand what I experienced, but I left confident that God was real and that He loved me and wanted the best life for me.
This encounter would put me on a trajectory I still find myself on today.
Ever since that moment I have sought my hardest to give my heart to God and live my life for Him (of course usually falling very short).
The life I now live was never the life I thought I would live.
At the age of 23 I married my beautiful wife Janelle, and in just a short 6 years later we have been blessed to have a continuously growing family that includes four rambunctious little children — Gianna (5) , Luke (4), Chiara (2), and Leah (1).
My wife and I find ourselves today on this wild adventure of trying to get both each other and our children to heaven. Please pray for us!
That said, in addition to serving as a husband and father, I have been blessed to be called by God to teach the Catholic faith every day as a Catholic high school theology teacher.
I founded The Catechism Guy as an extension of my own love for God and His Church.
Due to the abundance of grace that God has poured into my life, I created The Catechism Guy with a desire to somehow share those graces with others.
As I shared above, I have been Catholic all my life. But I have not truly lived my Catholic faith all my life.
It wasn’t until I encountered the Lord in a real way that I began to take the faith seriously.
But, even then, after having that encounter with our Lord in the Holy Eucharist, I didn’t know exactly what to do. I didn’t know how to live an authentically Catholic life.
It was then that I began reading, devouring every “Catholic” book I could get my hands on, trying to understand what I could do to reform my life around Christ and His Church.
Well, I know that many Catholics are where I was after that initial encounter with the Lord.
This is why The Catechism Guy exists: To help Catholics who are tired of being lukewarm become intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.
My prayer and hope is that you find everything on this site somehow useful in your journey.
I am blessed that you are here.
