Litany of Trust: A Prayer for the Anxious

As an entire world we’re currently going through a period of great anxiety and uncertainty.

Nobody knows when it will end and nobody knows exactly how it all began. But what we do know for certain is that we have a God who is with us in the thick of it.

Even so, I’d be lying if I said I’m not anxious or afraid — I feel both helpless and out of control.

Maybe you can relate.

With that being said, I don’t know the solution nor how long it’ll be until things return to “normal.”

But I’d like to share with you this beautiful prayer that is becoming a rock for me during this time:

The Litany of Trust

(Click here for the full version written by the Sisters of Life)

It was written by Sister Faustina Maria Pia, SV, a member of the Sisters of Life.

Here’s a music video version of the litany, arranged to song by Sister Caroline Caritas, SV:

In praying the Litany of Trust we lift our worries, concerns, and lack of faith/trust in God to Jesus.

When everything around us seems to be falling apart, it is to Jesus that we quietly entrust ourselves; it is in Jesus that our hope remains.

The Litany of Trust (excerpt):

From the belief that I have to earn Your love. Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that I am unlovable. Deliver me, Jesus.

From the false security that I have what it takes. Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that trusting You will leave me more destitute. Deliver me, Jesus.

That my life is a gift. Jesus, I trust in You.

That You will teach me to trust You. Jesus, I trust in You.

That You are my Lord and my God. Jesus, I trust in You.

That I am Your beloved one. Jesus, I trust in You.”

    St. Ignatius of Loyola

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
    my memory, my understanding,
    and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
    that is enough for me.
